Van Cleef & Arpels, Tashkeel, Design Days Dubai 2015

TIleTable is a magnetic modular coffee table that can be composed according to the user need. It consists of three elements with a different geometry that makes possible almost infinite chances of arrangements. It takes elements of the Islamic tradition such as the mosaic pattern grid and projects them in a contemporary aesthetic and function. At the same time can be seen as a metaphor for mankind condition, where each piece can’t stand by itself but when arranged in group a stable and functional configuration is achieved.

Tiletable is manufactured by timber products using the turning technique. It is than finished with a black lacquered coating and some copper trims are applied to emphasize its pattern. Its elements are connected by a magnetic system that makes rearrangement extremely intuitive and interactive.

The designer Ivan Parati was awarded the “Middle East Emergent Artist Prize” from the organizer of the competition, high jewelry maison Van Cleef and Arpels and Tashkeel in partnership with Design Days Dubai and was exhibited during the design fair 2015 Exhibition. The piece has been featured widely on regional interior and lifestyle magazines.
